QUESTION

Be actively involved.

Check for review questions at the end of chapter.

Check your notes for questions your teacher may have presented when giving the reading assignment.

Turn chapter headings and subheadings into questions.

Create your own questions by using:

who, what, when, where, & why

READ

Now we finally read!

Read slowly and carefully.

Most information will be familiar.

Answer questions in your head as you go.

Reread and highlight, outline, or take notes.

RECITE

Talk through what you’ve learned – out loud!

If you feel funny, use a study partner or tell your parent.

When you feel comfortable talking about it, you know you’ve got it down.

Studies show that students forget 80% of what they read after just two weeks.

When they immediately RECITE what they’ve read, that rate drops to 20%!

REVIEW

Let’s go over it one more time!

Skim subheadings and summarize each section.

Look at the pictures and tell what they show (without peeking at the captions).

Answer the questions you’ve created for that chapter.
